Visit Ischia

Description

One of the smallest and oldest churches on the island is the Church of St. Girolamo. One can perceive in all its details, features very singular . The front door is the base for an arch that serves as a bell. Above the arch you can see the metal cross. To the right of the door is a plaque commemorating the fourth centenary of the marriage of Ferrante d'Avalos and Vittoria Colonna. To the right of the church, a monument dedicated to all the fallen war veterans. You enter into a nave with a low ceiling, on the bottom there is a dome over the altar. The church is illuminated by an opening in the dome with a fine mosaic. Behind the altar is a painting of Our Lady of Peace. The tabernacle is located under the canvas in a golden casket.
